The fashion world was shocked and heartbroken Monday after learning of designer L’Wren Scott’s tragic death.
Editors, models, fellow designers and the celebrities who wore Scott’s gowns on the red carpet were horrified after an assistant found the 49-year-old dead of an apparent suicide at her Manhattan apartment.
“Everyone is shocked,” said designer Michael Houghton, who credited Scott with getting his designs on the backs of big stars like Mick Jagger — Scott’s boyfriend — in 2005.
“She seemed to have her career going well and everyone assumed things were fine between her and Mick.”
“I just texted Tommy Hilfiger,” Houghton added. “He knows. We texted back and forth. He’s upset.”
Celebrity stylist Phillip Bloch, a friend who modeled with Scott in the 90s, remembered her as “impeccable, chic and so tall.”
While Scott was a strong woman with celebrity connections and a “glamorous life,” her career as a designer wasn’t without struggle, Bloch said.
“It’s a high-profile job, high-pressure.”
